Krishna Ashtami

  • Sept 8th is not correct .... KRISHNASHTAMI always should be celebrated in shravan masa only ... there are many pramanas for it ... LET ME GIVE SOME ...
  • THERE SEEMS TO BE A OPINION THAT KRISHNASHTAMI AND JAYANTI ARE TWO DIFFERENT VRATAS ,, Krishnashtami is nitya not doing krishnashtami will lead to hell ...and other lesser births ...
  • bhavishyottar purana - ShravaNe bahuLe pakshe KrishNa janmashtamivratam | na karoti naro yastu bhavati brmaharakshasah | shravan krishna ashtami tithi is krishnashtami vrata , a [erson who does not do this vrata becomes bramha rakshasa ... [ so it is nitya vrata ] ..... To indicate that there may be another day vrata [ like sept 8 this year ] if one does that another vrata leaving krishnashtami shrvana [ like the aug 9th night this year ] such a person will not get any result [phala ] of all the punya karua like building water tanks ,yagnya or will not get result of any other vrata niyam upavasa .... the relevant verse is " KrishNajanmaShtami tyaktva yoanyad vratamuPoshayet | napnoti sukrutam kinchishtapoortamathapiva ||"
  • a woman who does not do Krishnashtami vrata every year [ it is compulsory for everyone ] , such a sinner will become wild animal in dense forest
  • Sanatkumar samhita - " ShravaNasya ch masasa krishNashtamyaam mayanagh | RohiNi yadi labhyate jayanti naam sa tithi " ..... Sanatakumar samhita quotes , that shravana month is month for Krishnaashtami ... if this day is inclusive of rohini star then it is called jayanti ..
  • Skanda purana - prajapatyena samyukta ashtami tu ya bhavet |ShravaNe bahuLe sa tu sarvapaappraNashini || jayam punyasa kurute jayantityena taam viduh ||
  • saknada also says that it is shrvana masa ashtami if inclusve of rohini it becomes jayanti ...
  • Bhrigu RIshi says " janmashtami jayanti ch shivaratistathaiva ch poorvaviddhauva kartavyaa tithichante ch paraNam iti " that janmashtami jayanti shivratri all these vratas have to be celebrated on the day when there is previous tithi vedha .. ie saptami vedha fo ashtami .. that means the whole day in morning should be saptami and in the night ashtami should appear .. the moonrise will be arghya time for KRISHNAHTAMI .. if rohini s also there at time it becomes JAYANTI ..

  • PADMA purana says .. even if one gets one muhurta on ashtami in krishna paksha along with rohini , one must do upavasa
  • IN mahabharata tatparyanirnay ACHARYA says " yasminnabde Bhadrapade sa MAAS " it says bhadrapada masa is krishNA Jayanti
  • VishNudharmottar Purana says " RohiNi sahita krishNamaasi BhadrapadeashtaMi | saptamyaamardhratre tu kala vaapi yada bhavet | saivoposhya iti Bhadrapad KrsihNashtami Jayanti ityuktah || here there seems to be clear instructions of Bhadrapada masa being the Krishna shtami and jayanti
  • So some say since it is MAdhwacharya who says Bhadrapada masa and vishnu dharmottar purana also says bhadrapada .. one must celebrate jayanti krishnashtami in bhadrapada
  • In dharma Shastra , the vakya [ the instruction ] which goes against many pramanas should be reconciled ... Here MADHWACHARAYA says Bhadrapa masa / and bahuvaakya virodha possibility is there as , sanyasa paddhati says ... rohiNi sahita Krsihna mase SHRAVANE ashtami | jayanti naam saprokta mahapatak nashini " leaving no doubts that even jayanti is also in SHRAVANA .. then there is sanatakumar samhita . bhavishyottar purana , skanda purana padma purana .. so many vakya virodha is possible ./. SO SRIMADANANDA teertha and Vishnu Dharmottar purana sentence must be reconcilied ... what is reconciliation ..There is a tradition of calling a month from the pratipada after Porrnima .. ie after SHravan poornima , the pratipada is called as Bhadrapada pratipada so shravan krishNa ashtami is also called as Bhadrapada ashtami ... in North India this tradition is active ..so by taking this ashtami in this way " saapi pourNimasya masaan sampadya iti " Smritimuktavali author says there will be no contradiction in what MADHWACHARYA says and what purnas says .. thus Krishna ashtami is SHRAVAN bahulaAshtami only

  • yes vishnu teerthiya says simha mase .. but there is pramaNA which says simha masa is paryay shabda for Shravana masa only
  • Smrutimuktavali says " Skaande praashikayaam smrutikaustubhecha Shravan maassyaiva simhamaas vyavahaaraat ek vaakyatva mityuktam || " skanda puraNa prakashika smruti kaustubh have declared shravan masa as simha masa , there is no virodha to vishnuteerthiya vachan
  • shravan masa is chaandramaan .. simha masa sauramana .. but whenever there is cross ref .. simha masa of saurmana refres to shravana masa of chaandramaana
  • NO not vice versa because then ashtami tithi which is salient feature of chandramaan will also lose its meaning .. because saura ashtami will be that day when sun is 8degrees .. if sauramana takes precedence ... and we do not see such tradition .. we see saptami viddha ashtami from chandramana onl
  • IS RAAM NAVAMI celebrated on NAVAMI or PUNARVASU nakshatra .? what is the age old tradition here ... Krishna ashtami is important , if rohini also accompanies it becomes JAYANTI . SO shravan Krishna ashtami is to be celebrated ...
  • Tithi ashtami for Krsishnashtami should be saptami viddha .. ie ashtami at midnight is more important here and saptami in the morning at suryodaya is considered as apt ... so tithi nirnay here is little different .... Wednesday Rohini ashtami at midnight makes it even more shreshtha ..
  • The interpreatation of dharma shastra should be such that ...there should be no violation of prabala vakya ... [ the strong dictum ] when many strong dictums are available then that must be followed .. a prabala dictum is still heavy on many weak dict
  • Here pramanaas for sharvan masa ashtami is greater in all puranas .. but MAdhwacharya says bhadrapada .. so there is bahuvakya virodha for a strong dictum of MADHWACHARYA .... so we have to see reconciliation .. AND LUCKILY in this case we have recon
  • NOW // simha masa is one where simha rashi sankramana will be there ... see such sankramana takes place in sharvana masa only ... even this year ..
  • at the time of YUGADI in the beginning of KALIYUGA ... sun was in ARIES ... mesha masa .... BUT we see that we celebrate YUGADI .. even when SUN is in pisces and chiatra masa PADYAMI comes as MOON enters ASHWINI ... now one does not wait for sun tp enter MESHA and then next padyami is observed as YUGADI ... is not seen ...
  • MADHWACHARYA is saying at the TIME of KRISHNA janma .. surya was in simha masa .. and also jupiter ...

  • the words which are in coherence with smriti even in tamas purana are considered satvik .... like most of the quotes acharya gives to justify dvaita also occur from SKANDA purana ... now here the words are pertaining to krishna ashtami .. and the words reconcile with sanatkuamar samhita which is satvik
  • tithi gives prosperity , nakshatra increases decreases sins ...... people usuall look forward to prosperity ....

  • fast tommorrow . parane after 12.45 , sick pregnant and others can have phalahaar after midnight ....
  • Suresh , if ayush homa has to be done , one uses nakshtra ..
  • pooja should be done in morning , evening ..night , BUt arghya at 11.49 pm... with sandal paste flowers milk ,and water coins ..
